Abstract

The present study uses structural equation modeling (SEM) to explore and investigate empirically the relationships between job embeddedness fit (JEF), job embeddedness links (JEL), job embeddedness sacrifice (JES), intrinsic motivation (IM), extrinsic motivation (EM), and perceived organizational support (POS) with teachers’ staying intention (SI) in the profession. The study was grounded in three theoretical frameworks including Job Embeddedness Theory, Self-Determination Theory (SDT), and Social Exchange Theory (SET). An online survey was used to collect data from 513 teachers representing 53 countries and six continents. IBM Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) 31 and AMOS 31 were used to analyze the data. SEM analyses revealed several statistically nonsignificant findings except for one hypothesis. Results revealed that JES significantly predicts teachers’ staying intention in the profession while the remaining five hypotheses were non-significant. However, descriptive statistics for the six constructs indicated that the five constructs are factors that influence teachers’ staying intention in the profession which are consistent with past studies and the theoretical frameworks. Implications for policymakers, researchers, teachers, school leaders, and recruitment agencies are discussed.
